Because I’m a Mama

BecauseImAMamaBecause I’m a mama poop, pee, and vomit no longer make me squeamish.
But commercials about parenthood sometimes make me cry.
Because I’m a mama I gave birth with no pain medication.
But tears emerged as you first looked into my eyes.
Because I’m a mama I survived six weeks with only two hours of sleep each night.
But now that you sleep all night I will stay up to watch your sweet face dream.
Because I’m a mama I will fight with passion when I feel you are being wronged.
And I will fight back tears as my heart swells with pride to watch you enjoy your first parade.
Because I’m a mama I will stand firm as you sit through your time out.
But I will melt when you say, “I help you” and you offer your hand.
BecauseI'mAMama2Because I’m a mama I will insist you try the vegetables on your plate.
But I will laugh and giggle as you spread your first s’more all over your face.
Because I’m a mama I will sit with you as you insist that it takes hours to use the potty.
But I will long for more hours of those baby days as you start pre-school and I feel our time growing shorter.
Because I’m a mama you give me strength love and guidance.
And I hope I impart much of it to you.
